Teresa Cox

Teresa Cox is a long-time Democratic Leader for both the Fremont Community and the business world.

A native of Dayton, Ohio, Teresa grew up in an education and community oriented family. Both of her parent's were teachers, her mother taught music and her father taught the Industrial Arts and Tennis. Teresa's father passed away when she was a young girl leaving her mother to raise 3 children on a teacher's salary.

Teresa earned a Bachelor's Degree in Nuclear Engineering from Northwestern University in 1985 and a MBA from the University of Rochester in 1988. She made national headlines as the first African American woman with a degree in Nuclear Engineering in the nation.

Her work experience includes the diverse fields of Investment Marketing, Mechanical Engineering for the Navy, Community Liaison for the White House, foreign trade, contract management, and supply chain business management. In her professional life she is experienced in managing multi-million dollar projects and working with the community.

Her family are long time residents of Fremont and have contributed to making the community a better place. Teresa Cox has served in various leadership positions of community service organizations that promote family and education, such as The Links, Jack and Jill of America, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She is a member of the Host committee for the San Francisco Thurgood Marshall College Fund, which raises money to provide merit-based scholarships. Teresa has served as a Board Member for the Stanford’s Lucille Packard Children's Hospital Neonatal Advisory Board to strengthen ties between families and medical staff and also a presenter to the medical staff for their yearly training. She is currently the Chair for the Economic Development Advisory Commission for the City of Fremont.

At a time when leadership is needed and the challenges, such as the state budget and the accreditation status of the College, are critically important, Teresa Cox's unique history, work and life experiences make her perfectly suited to be a significant new asset to the Ohlone Community College Board and the best candidate for the position.
